How to properly select doors and frames
Doors
When selecting doors we first must decide on what type of door we need. Furthermore, whether we need entrance doors to an apartment (fire resistant interior doors or Safety Class 2 fireproof doors), whether we have no other requirements – sound proof doors, safety glass doors, sliding doors including rails.
After this we can approach a decision on which model series we’ll select considering specific requirements. Each model series has further specification options: door surface design, other than standard glass, lock specification – standard, insert lock, select the surface of hinges – standard is silver, however optional are brass, bronze, glazed nickel.
When ordering a door the most important task is to properly measure its dimensions. Doors can be measured at the welt, i.e. the narrower dimension, or maximum door width. For example: standard doors 80/197cm have 82 cm at the welt, wider dimension of 85 cm, height size at the welt is 197 cm, greater dimension is 198.5 cm. Passage through doors is 80 cm wide and height is 197 cm. When measuring doors it is necessary to make sure that they have the same size along their entire length and width, the welt itself must have a width of 1.5cm and door depth of 2.5 cm.
Define right or left door as follows: Stand facing the wider side of the door. Which side of the door has hinges, that's the type of door you need: left or right (see image).
Frames
When ordering frames we have to first focus on dimensions of the construction opening.
The constructed opening is measured only once the walls are finished including tiling and also following floor finish. Width and height of a standard construction opening is stated with frames. As a standard it is understood that we add 5 cm to each side of a nominal dimension. In case of frames for 80/197 cm size doors the width of the construction opening is 90 cm and height is 202 cm. If the constructed opening does not have the required dimensions, then there are two options. You either modify the constructed opening to meet the required dimensions or you order an atypical frame and atypical door. It is of course easier if the opening can be modified, because the second option carries extra costs with it for door customization that totals 40%, customization of frames then cost an extra 20%.
If there are any doubts when measuring doors and frames, we recommend inquiring with an expert company.
Soundproof doors
Padded soundproof doors
Doors can be delivered as soundproof (air soundproof) in a SOLO frame (doors in a steel frame have 2 dB lower air soundproofing). Soundproof doors create a feeling of privacy, lower the passing of sound through doors (refrigerator 40 dB, dishwasher 42 dB, whispering 20dB, filling the bathtub with water 80dB).
The following padded soundproof doors are available:
32 dB – door filling is the LINEX board, doors have an extendable threshold ELLN MATIC OMEGA
35 dB – door filling is the LINEX board, doors are with a fixed sealed threshold
38 dB – door filling is a chipboard broken up by a layer of cork, doors are with a fixed sealed threshold
Soundproof and fireproof doors and Safety Class 2 fireproof doors
Fireproof doors can be delivered as soundproof in a SOLO fireproof frame with an air soundproofing of 35 and 37 dB (the soundproofing values are lowered by 2dB in a steel frame). Air soundproofing is achieved by adding a top board. The doors with an air soundproofing of 35 dB have a single board added, the 37 dB version has two boards from both sides. When selecting the fittings it is necessary to take into account that door thickness will be 44 mm, or possibly 47 mm.
Heavy Duty doors
These are suitable for healthcare facilities, schools, manufacture and administration buildings, hyper and supermarkets – heavily used doors where there is a greater chance to scratch the door surface.
Doors are filled with a perforated chipboard (fireproof doors contain a fireproof chipboard). Door surface has HPL film or CPL fill with a thickness of 0.8 mm. CPL 0.8 film designs include applejack, oak horizontal vertical light, oak horizontal vertical dark, HPL film 0.8 mm – gray.
Doors can be delivered as welt or welt free. Heavy Duty door can also be delivered as padded, fireproof, possibly as Safety Class 2 fireproof.
Welt free doors
Welt free doors can be delivered in all model series besides fireproof doors, smoke proof and soundproof and SONET doors. Welt free doors with embedded hinges in a special frame give a very nice modern impression.
Swinging doors
Swinging doors can open in both direction with a fixation in a center position through springing hinges. They are set into a frame with a special design. With regards to the stress doors are subjected to, the door padding will be perforated chipboard and the surface will have an HPL film or CPL film with a thickness of 0.8 mm.
Round edge doors
All types of doors except the fireproof doors, Safety Class 2 doors and SONET doors can be custom made as round edge doors.
Sliding doors
Sliding doors are manufactured on a wall or into a construction casing.
All door types can be delivered as sliding, an exception are doors that are fireproof, Safety Class 2 doors and SONET doors: Smooth doors, STYL, SOLO, OTAVA, SONG.
These are manufactured as welt free doors with an opening for a holder (so called shell). The bottom edge has a carved groove for a guide strip. The groove dimensions are 9x16 mm. Doors with greater demands on operation can have an aluminum strip placed into groove, groove dimensions are 10x17 mm.
Set
Set is comprised of sliding doors, guide rails with a sliding mechanism and walk through (so called blind) frames. Upon ordering the door you will be contacted by a store sales representative to specify the requirements on the set and to be informed of its price.
Guide rail is made up of a box open strip and is intended to be installed above a blind frame or a smooth opening in a wall. For lockable sliding doors we deliver a column, surface of which is identical with the blind frame design.
Shells for sliding doors can be wooden (shades of oak, ash, beech, mahogany) or metal (brass glossy, chrome glossy, nickel polished). Lockable doors can only be equipped with metal shells. The face of the lock will always be of the same design as the shell and the lock can be plain, insert or bathroom lock.
Guiding strip for the movement of wall mounted sliding doors is ordered in a length of double the width of the sliding doors. The strip can be adjusted and is delivered as 2m.
Wall sliding doors sizes: door width – nominal door dimensions + 9cm (e.g. width of wall sliding doors 60/197 cm will be 69 cm), door height will be 198.5 cm.
Sliding doors into a construction casing
These sliding doors differ from wall sliding doors with their dimensions. Door width will be the nominal door dimension + 5 cm (e.g. door width of sliding doors into a construction casing 60/197 will be 65cm), door height will be 198.5 cm.
Smooth doors, including glass, possibly with panel frame can be used into construction casing on a sheet rock wall with a width of 100m can have. Doors with glued on frames cannot be used.
